Preface
Preface
This manual has been developed as a reference guide to be used in conjunction with
HeartSafe EMS emergency training programs. It should not be considered a replacement
for training or recertification, but as a learning tool and a resource.
With reference to the Heartsaver AED & CPR program, annual review, retesting, and
successful completion of all quality assurance requirements are a prerequisite before any
provider may be permitted to practice under the medical authority regulating the delivery
of this course and its objectives, where required.
Any procedure or practice described in this manual should be applied by properly trained
personnel in accordance with professional standards of care described within, and in ac-
cordance with the unique circumstances that may apply in each situation. All efforts have
been taken to ensure the accuracy of the information presented and to describe generally
accepted practices. However, the authors and editors cannot accept any responsibility for
errors or omissions or for any consequences which arise out of
the improper application of the information contained in this manual.
The Emergency Services professionals at HeartSafe EMS believe that training in First
Aid and CPR is crucial for the safety and protection of family members, and in reinforcing
the “Chain of Survival” in our communities. Citizens trained in First Aid and CPR become
an integral part of the community’s Emergency Medical System and
have been proven to significantly improve a person’s chance of survival and recovery.
Learning what to do in an emergency does not need to be complicated or intimidating.
We at HeartSafe EMS are dedicated to providing instruction in life saving techniques
in a manner best suited to your personal needs. We commend you for taking an active
role in the strengthening of the Emergency Medical System...for your community, and
for your friends and family.
